The Buurtermolen

The Buurtermolen, believed to have been built in the 18th century, was used to drain the Buurterpolder up to 1968. When this task was taken over by an electric pumping station, the hollow post mill fell into disrepair.

The Rijnlandse Molenstichting, a windmill foundation, has restored the mill twice. During the latest restoration in 1982, a large part of the red upper house was renewed, among other things.

Due to its beautiful location on an island in the Kagerplassen the Buurtermolen has an immense scenic value. In addition, it is still workable. What is striking is the enormous capacity of the mill, which is disproportionate to the size of the polder.

More information about the Buurtermolen can be found in the Dutch windmill database.
